Premio Talento Andaluz: The Regional Government Honours the Cordovan Who Took Flamenco to the World
The President of the Junta de Andalucia presents the award in Madrid and recalls his designation as UNESCO Artist for Peace in 1999.
On 12 March 2024, the President of the Junta de Andalucia presented Joaquín Cortés with the Premio Talento Andaluz at the Auditorio Francisco Giner de los Rios in Madrid, alongside other distinguished Andalusians including the singer Diana Navarro.
The citation recalled a fact that encapsulates his historical role: UNESCO designated him Artist for Peace in 1999, ten years before flamenco was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. He came first; the universal recognition of the art he represents followed.
Andalusia honoured its most tireless ambassador: the boy from Córdoba who put flamenco on the world’s great stages.
