Esencia, 2023-2026: the journey that closed a chapter
Joaquín Cortés's most personal work closes its final phase after nearly a decade on stage. A look at what it meant and what it leaves open.
Every great work knows when to end. Esencia, the most personal production of Joaquín Cortés, closes its cycle. Premiered in 2017 at the Teatro Tívoli in Barcelona, its final phase, from 2023 to 2026, took it from the Teatro Real to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and to stages across the world.
It was a journey through a lifetime of dance: more than forty artists on stage, live orchestra, and the arc of a legend told through the body. From the boy who dreamed in Córdoba to one of the most influential figures in world dance.
What Esencia leaves behind
Esencia was not a farewell. It was a reckoning. Proof that the language Cortés has been building for more than three decades, force and elegance, root and vanguard, still fills theatres and moves three generations at once.
The chapter closes. The book does not. What comes next already has a name: Renacimiento.
